“Sustainable breeding of Belgian sport horses — health, temperament and bloodline first”
Stal Berkendonck Ven is a sustainable sport-horse breeding operation in rural Beerse, in the Antwerp Kempen. What began as a love of the craft has grown into a professional stud where knowledge and care go hand in hand. The emphasis is on quality, welfare and a genuine passion for horses: every horse is raised with care and guided towards a future in sport or breeding, with the aim of natural talent, a reliable character and a strong genetic background.
Nothing is forced. Young horses are given the time to develop at their own pace, which produces healthy, balanced animals that stay sound for a long career rather than dropping out early through overtraining. Foals stay with their dam for more than three months and are handled daily from the start, including trailer loading. Green fodder is grown on the farm without artificial fertiliser, and five hectares of grassland are available for grazing; the sport horses are raised in a small herd.
The stud focuses on Belgian warmbloods, valued for their power and reliable temperament, registered with BWP, Zangersheide, AES and SBS. Alongside its own breeding, Berkendonck Ven operates a recognised AI station and stallion station for the national trade, and helps buyers find the horse that matches their ambitions, whether a young talent, an experienced sport horse or a leisure horse, each selected on bloodline, health and performance.
